The relationship between the usage of social networking on life style and the level of self-esteem people in the city of Kerman

Abstract


The article surveys the relationship between the usage of social networking on life style and the level of self-esteem of 14 to 24 years people in the city of Kerman.

Background and aim: The aim of this research is to survey the relationship between the usage of social networking with life style and the level of self-esteem of 14 to 24 years old people in the city of Kerman.

Method: For this purpose 385 people were chosen as our samples which 189 of them were girls and 196 of them were boys. Due to the vastness of this statistical population we used the available cluster sampling and Eysenck’s self-esteem and life style (LSQ) questionnaires.

Findings: The results of regression test indicate that among components of life style, physical health, prevention of diseases and psychological health are able to anticipate the amount of usage of virtual networks and 38% of score changes in using virtual networks are anticipatable based on mentioned components and the self-esteem component is able to anticipate 25% of changes related to amount of social networking usage. Moreover, the coefficient test indicates that there is a relationship between small scales of life style and self-esteem with using social networks. As it can be seen in the mentioned table, among small scales of life style, prevention from accidents has the strongest relationship with social networking usage and also sports and mental health have no correlation with mentioned components. Furthermore, weight control, social health and self-esteem have negative correlation with component of using social networks independent T test also indicates that the differences among conditions are meaningful and the amount of using social networks is different among girls, boys, students and collegians.
